This witchy crescent, facing downward, was often seen on Neoclassical renditions of Diana, goddess of the hunt. I owned and wore this piece for about 2 years; now it's time to pass it on (I cut my hair short!) Two 4" prongs make a fork that can twist into your hair to hold it up. The piqué inlay is 10k gold (at least; more like 12k, I tested it) and many little dots are lost. More are likely to follow; this is the nature of old piqué. A tortoise hinge allows the crescent to face forward, up, or anywhere in between. Some visible glue marks on hinge connector, but nothing visible when worn. Moon is 1 3/4" wide. c. 1870.
