A miniature universe of color and light, this Georgian locket may have been conceived as a planetary jewel — each stone representing one of the celestial bodies thought to influence human fate. In the early 19th century, astronomy and astrology were often intertwined, and jewels like this echoed the heavens in their design. The eight gem cabochons encircle a central rock crystal locket like planets orbiting a sun: goldstone, amethyst, green chalcedony, red jasper, lapis lazuli, and jasper, all set in 14k gold. The locket opens to hold a keepsake - a secret world in a cosmic frame.
