By the mid-19th century, agate had become one of Britain’s most fashionable ornamental stones. Many of the agates used in Victorian jewelry were cut in the renowned lapidary workshops of Idar-Oberstein, Germany, where imported Brazilian agates were transformed into polished cabochons for jewelers across Europe. The orange/grey/ brown color story seems like it wouldn't work, but it's harmonious.
