"Bohemian" garnets get their moniker from the region from which they were mined - nowadays Bohemia is part of the modern Czech Republic. The abundant mines of Bohemia have been worked since the year 1500 and produce a beautiful red variety of the gemstone known as pyrope. This pendant is an unusual figural piece of Bohemian garnet jewelry - a bird in flight studded in rose cut red gems with a seed pearl eye.
