We've seen many of these tiny padlocks fasten an antique bracelet closed, but the ring variations are much rarer. The symbolism is not particularly subtle - a commitment, a promise, a love that has been locked in. British hallmarks tell us the ring was assayed in 1919, the last year of the first world war.
